Linda is the backup
instructor for the children and adult classes for Midwest Karate
Association in both Mpls. and St. Paul. Linda enjoys the
competition aspect of karate as well. Linda competed September
19-20, 1998 at the 37th US National Karate Championships and placed 3rd
in Woman's Kumite. In 1996 Linda placed 2nd at the US Karate National
competition in Woman's Team Kata and in 1994 placed 3rd at the US Karate
Nationals 's in Woman's Fuku-go (a kata and kumite elimination
event). Linda also instructs community karate for kid programs
which include: Kinderberry, Children World Education Centers
as well as S.O.C.K. (save our city's kids), and teaches the summer camp
karate program for children at Progressive Baptist Church in St.
Paul. Kids gain self-confidence and self-respect when
in sports (or other interests) that require dedication, self-discipline,
and hard work. The kids confidence rewards them in many ways and
benefits out community for positive growth.
Career:
Linda started the company in the Micro-finishing Division in 1981 and
later joined the Medical-Surgical Division in 1982. In 1989
Linda moved to product service function in the Medical Division
Lab (Skin Health Lab). In 1996 Linda completed a 2nd degree,
through the /Augsburg's program: B.S. in Chemistry.
Karate
comments from Linda Brown: There is a multiplicity of
benefits training in karate, which can become a life-time exercise
program. It is well rounded with stretching and aerobic workouts
that will help relieve those stressful days. When practicing
karate, the body dynamics are studied to achieve the best effective
karate technique (strong & ergo-dynamic). A side
benefit from the body conditioning is the knowledge of self-defense
that is also achieved.

About
the Treasurer: Bob F. Young is the Treasurer of the
Karate Club. |
What
about Bob?: Bob has been training in various styles of
martial arts for over 30 years (and he's not that old...). Bob has
trained in Judo, Jujitsu, Kempo, Goju Kai (3rd Kyu), Taekwondo (5th Kyu)
and now Shotokan/JKA (currently 1st Kyu, brown belt). (Note: Bob says he
has learned to recognize the "twitch" made by his
Shotokan Instructors; that indicates he will need to work harder
at correcting a stance or alignment that served him well in another
style - as Bob explains.) And, of all of the styles he has trained in,
Bob believes he has found a "home" in Shotokan at Midwest
Karate through the Karate Club.
Why "Shotokan/JKA":
Because for Bob, he says this style has the best synthesis of
"mental" and "physical"; "philosophy" and
"application"; "art" and "street self
defense". Bob also says he enjoys the workout, but more importantly
the mental challenge of Shotokan. The likelihood of broken bones and
major bruises is minimal to none, in this "non-contact" style.
Why "Midwest Karate
Association": Because these dojos have a sense of stability
(>30 years in Minneapolis, >25 years in St Paul and >10 years
in Burnsville/Savage). Too many times, at other schools, instructors
just moved away and closed the schools- making it much more difficult to
progress. Also, the instructors at Midwest Karate are really talented.
Career: Bob has
been in Microbiology Products at since 1984. Bob has held
positions in Technical Service, Field Sales, Marketing, and Training.
